Art in Bloom Returns to Mia With 100+ Florists Interpreting the Collection

Spring arrives inside the Minneapolis Institute of Art before it arrives outside. Art in Bloom, the museum's month-long floral festival and one of the Twin Cities' most beloved spring traditions, culminates April 23–26 with more than 100 florists — amateur enthusiasts, garden clubs, and professional studios — installing imaginative floral interpretations of selected works from Mia's permanent collection throughout the galleries.

The pairings are the fun. A Dutch still life beside a florist's real-life echo of the same composition. A Rothko answered in tulips and moss. A medieval altar panel reimagined in orchids and gold wire. Walking the museum during Art in Bloom is like visiting twice — once for the art, once for the conversation between the art and the flowers. Family events, workshops, and demonstrations run across the full week, and admission to Mia remains free.

If you're going: Saturday is the busiest — plan for Thursday morning if you want to see everything before the crowds fill the galleries. The cafe at Mia is also doing a limited spring menu for the week.
